All-in strategy pertains to a betting strategy that is often used in No Limit Texas Hold’em. When you say “All-in” all your chips will into the pot on that particular hand. Usually, this is a make-or-break move. If the person who calls your bet has more chips than you do and you lose, then you are out of the game. However, if the opponent has less, then you are still in the game. All-in is a very powerful strategy in Texas Hold’em, though it should be used sparingly unless your hand is just perfect. Going all-in could finish your game with just one hand.

If you play in lower-level tournaments you’re familiar with the all-in player. Those guys throw caution to the wind when playing. The money seems quite unimportant, and they’ve developed an attitude that the best way to win is to double through a couple times early in the tournament, and force the aggression for the rest of the tournament from there.

The point of all-in strategy is to be able to take advantage of a placed bet. We offer you some tips so you could decide when to go all-in.

  • If you go all-in too often, your strategy becomes easy to figure out and opponents will not place higher bets and just fold.
  • If your chips are strong you can try bullying your opponents to fold. If you lose in an all-in, you may lose some chips but your opponents will lose all and they will drop out of the game.
  • If your hand is really good and you are low on chips then all-in is a must. Being short of chips, you will most likely be called not just once. If you are in a good position, you might have the opportunity to triple your money.
  • Often it is easier to make an all-in bet than to make the call. In this instance, all you have to do is decide to bet only when you are certain that the opponent will fold.
  • If somebody calls all-in against you, find out why he did. Is he short of chips? Or bullying you out of the game? Weigh everything carefully before deciding to call.
  • Do not go all-in if you are bluffing. If you do not have the best hand, you must be sure that you will with the remaining cards to be dealt.
  • Refrain from having a short stack of chips. Your opponents who want you out of the game may choose to call you because you have less chips than they do. That means if you lose there’s one less opponent for them. If your opponent calls against you, you need to win by all means.

Be careful about going all-in and don’t forget these tips. Also remember that proper behavior at the poker table means a great deal and can make or break your game!
